Windrose Gunpowder Guide: How to Get, Enemy Drops, Locations, Crafting Recipe, & more

Posted on by brandon
Looking to put your arsenal of guns to use in Windrose? While you'll obviously need ammo to fire, you'll also need gunpowder, too! Here, we cover how to craft homemade gunpowder in Windrose and all the things you'll need to get your crew back to shooting your foes from a distance.

How to Get Gunpowder in Windrose & Crafting Recipe

windrose gunpowder needed cant shoot message So, you're out of gunpowder and are looking to fire your favorite gun. There are two ways to get gunpowder in Windrose. The first is to craft homemade gunpowder. For this, you'll need two main components to get the job done: Ash and Sulfur. The first material, Ash, is a bit easier to get than the second. To collect it, simply burn wood in your Charcoal Kiln. This can be done very early in the game. And since you're already looking to burn wood to make charcoal, it's a perfect way to make use of the Ash byproduct. The second material, Sulfur, is a bit more challenging to scrounge up. Sulfur is, unfortunately, a raw resource in the world. That means you'll need to locate it directly to gather it in the form of Sulfur Nodes. These nodes can be found in the Coastal Jungle and Foothills biomes. Once you've found a Sulfur Node, which you can easily identify by its yellow cracks, you'll need an Iron Pickaxe to extract it. If you don't have Iron tools yet but do have your boat equipped with cannons, you can destroy Sulfur Nodes with cannonfire right from the sea! Once you gather both required materials, you'll need to combine them in the Millstone. To unlock the Millstone, you'll need to first discover Corn, which will unlock the Millstone Parts schematic that can be made at your workbench. After you unlock that, combine 1 Millstone Parts and 15 Wood to build the Millstone. From here, combine 25 Ash and 25 Sulfur to get Homemade Gunpowder.

Where to Get Gunpowder in Windrose (Enemy Loot Drops & Locations)

For players with an itchy trigger finger who haven't unlocked the necessary requirements to craft Gunpowder, don't worry, there are still other ways to get it without crafting it. The simplest and most readily available way to get Gunpowder in Windrose, besides crafting it, is to hunt down Pirate-type enemies like Sailors, easily found in Blackbeard pirate camps. These enemies have a chance to drop Homemade Gunpowder directly. It can also drop in chests at these camps, as much as 8 at a time, so be sure to check them as they're more lucrative overall than individual mob drops! These pirates and their chests respawn every day. So once you've found and cleared a camp for its Gunpowder drops, revisit regularly to farm it. To make this even easier, consider setting up a fast-travel network by placing a Fast-Travel Bell at particularly juicy locations outside of your network. Because Gunpowder is much harder to replace than it is to use, you'll have to be mindful of your stock. Try to limit how many times you rely on your guns in combat or need to repair your ship. If you want to be a pirate gunslinger, consider focusing more of your time on farming pirate camps and Sulfur nodes on your travels.
