Valheim Ectoplasm Guide: How to Get, Locations, Crafting Recipes & more

Posted on by cade-davie
Skál! Prepare yourselves, children of Odin, as the latest patch has arrived in Valheim. Patch 0.221.4, also known as Call to Arms, has left the public test beta (PTB), bringing a handful of changes and additions. One of which is ectoplasm. This is a unique crafting material, and we can tell you all you need to know about Valheim ectoplasm below.

How to Get Ectoplasm in Valheim

Valheim T.W.I.G. screenshot Before you can get your hands on some ectoplasm, you'll need to slay some ghosts. Luckily, ghosts aren’t too tricky to find. They appear during any “You feel a chill down your spine…” event immediately after you’ve defeated Bonemass, who is the third boss in Valheim. Unlike many other open-world games, bosses in Valheim don’t wander the world. Instead, you’ll need to find an altar to summon, fight, and (hopefully) beat a boss. For Bonemass, you’ll need to find the Forsaken Altar in the Swamp area. Luckily, the altar is shaped like a giant green skull with a mouth full of glowing green liquid. They’re hard to miss! In order to summon Bonemass, you need to place ten Withered Bones at the Forsaken Altar. These can be found in muddy scrap piles throughout the Sunken Crypts area, or inside chests in the Swamp biome.

What to Do with Ectoplasm in Valheim

When you finally get some of your own ectoplasm, you can create a T.W.I.G. - a combat dummy you can build back at your base. Ectoplasm isn’t all you need, of course. Here are the exact materials required for crafting a T.W.I.G.:
  • Ectoplasm x5
  • Firewood x5
  • Bronze Nails x10
With a T.W.I.G., you can increase your XP with weapons, blocking, and dodging skills without fighting real enemies! This means you can finish getting a bit more necessary XP to increase your preferred weapon proficiency without the risk of death. Simply place your T.W.I.G. and start fighting it to reap the benefits. This dummy is perfect to catch up with friends in a Valheim dedicated server between sessions or for any late joiners. That’s all that ectoplasm can be used for at this point in time, but new creations may become possible in future updates - so stay tuned!
