When it comes to shaders and optimization, few do it better than Optifine, making it nearly required for some players. But what happens if an Optifine update is delayed? Is it still possible to use Optifine and play? Today, we answer those questions and more while covering the Optifine 1.21 release date and unofficial update.

Optifine 1.21 Release Date

Optifine 1.21 Logo Optifine’s official update progress was stated by the developer to be about 70% complete. However, we have since sadly learned that there will be delays due to unexpected troubles alongside real-life obligations. In the meantime, these tweets came with a temporary solution: an unofficial update!

Optifine 1.21 Unofficial Update

Created as a temporary solution by LoudIris with the developer of Optifine’s blessing, an unofficial update for Optifine can be found here. It is very important to note that this version does not come with some of the features Optifine typically does, and bugs are present within it, such as shaders not working at all. Should this temporary version still be desired, LoudIris has shared install instructions, which we will paste below: Standard
  1. Install Java JDK Download.
  2. Open the Minecraft launcher and launch the Minecraft version ‘1.21’, then close the Minecraft launcher (if left open)
  3. Open the OptiKai installer you downloaded and press “Install”
  4. Open the Minecraft launcher and launch with the profile with the OptiFine logo.
MultiMC
  1. Open the OptiKai installer and press extract, then JarMod.
  2. Create a new instance and press "Add to Minecraft.jar" under the version tab.
  3. Then select the jarmod.
Forge or NeoForge
  1. Install Forge 51.0.25
  2. Drag the OptiKai installer into the mods folder
  3. Launch with Forge

Optifine 1.21: Release Date, Unofficial Update, & More

The wait for the official Optifine update continues, but thanks to the hard work of LoudIris, many fans who rely on Optifine’s optimizations have a working solution! Now, it is simply a matter of cheering on Optifine’s official developer, Sp614x, as they continue to work away at the optimization mod we all love. Until Next Time, BisectHosting =)
