What Is Minecraft Dungeons 2?

Minecraft Dungeons 2 is an upcoming action-RPG adventure set within the world of Minecraft that can be played alone or with up to three friends. It will take players to explore yet-unseen Minecraft lore regarding ancient cities and possibly even what lies beyond the portals within them. The first entry in the series played from a top-down perspective with a focus on exploration, combat, and looting, and the sequel appears to follow suit but with significant polish alongside new mechanics.

The Minecraft Dungeons 2 release date is confirmed to be September 29, 2026. It will launch on Xbox Series X & S, PS5, Switch 1 & 2, Steam, and PC. Those with the ultimate tier of Xbox Game Pass can also look forward to enjoying Minecraft Dungeons 2 for free. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass the same day of its release, if not right away.

Those purchasing a standalone copy of Minecraft Dungeons 2 have two options in the form of “Standard Edition” and “Deluxe Edition.” Standard Edition costs $29.99 USD and includes only the base game, while Deluxe Edition costs $49.99 USD and includes the base game, two DLCs, the soul cape, four hero skins, and the blub pet. If either edition is pre-ordered before September 28, 2026, they include an additional two hero skins, the twisted cape, and the twisted chicken pet. The capes mentioned here are exclusive to MD2, however.

Potential Content

During Minecraft Live TwitchCon 2026, MD2 made a short appearance, showcasing concept art of new landscapes, including pillager bases, villager villages, and the deep dark. Additionally, the first new boss of Minecraft Dungeons was revealed: The Twisted Warden! We still have not seen the new boss in action, but the latest trailer showcased similar gameplay to the first Minecraft Dungeons, but in a much more polished state. Some new gameplay mechanics will also be present, with jumping and jump attacks being the first shown so far.
