Minecraft Copper Golem Guide: How to Build, Uses, & More

Posted on by amber
After four long years away, the runner-up of the Minecraft 2021 Mob Vote has returned and is ready to play. However, its features are completely different from what was announced during those faithful mob vote days. So, today, we explore all the new exciting features of copper golems in our copper golem Minecraft guide to save you time when the game drop goes live.

How to Build Copper Golems in the Minecraft Copper Age Update

Minecraft Jack O' Lantern On Copper Block Screenshot Much like iron golems and snow golems, copper golems are built out in the world rather than on a crafting table. In the case of copper golems, this is done by placing a copper block of any oxidation level and then a carved pumpkin or jack-o’-lantern on top. Doing so will not only create the copper golem but also a copper chest as well.

Copper Golems are an extraordinarily useful mob that takes items from copper chests and stores them in nearby regular chests that have matching items. To better explain how this functions, imagine a hypothetical base which contains one chest for flint, one chest for Iron Ingots and Iron Nuggets, and one chest for diamonds. The copper golem would take any new flint, iron ingots, iron nuggets, and diamonds placed in the copper chest and transfer them into their respective regular chests throughout the base. Should an item not already in a regular chest be placed in the copper chest, the copper golem would deposit that new item into the nearest empty regular chest. Sadly, copper golems are not all-powerful storage managers, however. They struggle in large storage rooms with numerous chests, as they only have a search radius of 32 blocks horizontally and eight blocks vertically. Additionally, the copper golem can only remember up to ten chests during a search, so it may end up looping. Copper golems must also be able to walk to and reach the chests themselves, as they can not use doors or ladders. As for the previous uses announced for copper golems in 2021, they have been entirely scrapped in favor of the new ones described above.

Oxidization

Minecraft Copper Golems Screenshot Copper oxidizes over time in Minecraft, and copper golems are no exception. They will gradually turn green in four stages unless honeycomb is used to preserve them permanently. Some players may recall that during the 2021 showcase, a fully oxidized copper golem became unable to move, forcing players to clear off the oxidation with an axe. As of the latest preview, this is once more the case, and full oxidation will turn your copper golems into statues. The oxidation process can still be reset using an axe at any time, but if left oxidized, they act as stationary blocks with adjustable poses.
